Contest Winners and New Contest

The contest is now closed, my grandson, who turns 8 tomorrow, picked the winner and the winner is:

margaret

There is one slight problem though, while at the birthday party today, I feel down my DD's back steps and broke my wrist. It might be a little while till I can make the bag. lol But you will get it. So margaret, please contact me at tha email below.

OK this one is going to be a quickie because I'll be back home Saturday and that's when it's going to end. Only one bag will be up for grabs this time, I haven't had much of a chance to sew, they've been keeping me busy at work. Tell me why you either don't use your own bags when you go shopping or about the last time you had to use paper or plastic if you do usually use them.

The winners to the last contest were:

1. Poolesd
2. Deb in Kansas
3. Kim Lincoln

The winners for the first contest who have not contacted me yet are:

2dachies
undeadgoat

Please email me at debsstuff55 at yahoo dot com with your address so I can send you your bag.

Would love to have a bag to keep in car for spur of the moment stops at stores! Want to stop throwing away bags! Luann

Deb,
This is embarrassing... despite my best effort at " going green" while shopping, it doesn't seem to be a success when it comes to the bags.... I have bought bags from our local Whole Foods. Kings, Trader Joe's all with the intent to keep them in the car for spur of the moment shopping trips, but EACH and every one of them end up being used for ... you guessed it.... knitting projects! I am out of control! MAureen in nj

i would like to have a bag
because i sick of seeing the plastic ones going to the landfill and wasting space there.
and if i had a green one i could use over and over where the plastic one is use it and it has wholes in it and there it goes to the landfill.
thank you
and have a nice 4th too

I love that people are finally trying to go green and not using the plastic bags. I always take the few that I have with me when I go shopping, but never seem to have enough. I am also glad to see that more and more places are now starting to ban the use of plastic bags. It is great to see more and more patterns becoming available for all of us to start making our own too.

Please put my name in the hat for your drawing. Thank you for bringing this issue to our awareness. I do try by taking my plastic bags back to stores that accept them for recycling, but I haven't used fabric bags -- yet.

Rats, I didn't win. Oh well, I'll have to make my own, I guess!

I have a few grocery bag tote patterns, but I was wondering--what is your favorite pattern to replace paper and/or plastic grocery bags for shopping?

I almost always use my bags but doing the weekly shopping this summer I just don't have enough of them (granddaughters are here for summer) if I don't have the bags with me because I am using a different car or if I don't have enough I always use paper instead of plastic - I hate those things they seem to multiply and I have no use for them. I have bought the store bags and just recently our HyVee sacked our goodies using the 'green bags' which is great!

I keep mine in the car but in the back seat pouches. So when I run into the store I FORGET to take them in with me. Comes with old age!

The good news is though that we use all the plastic bags because we use them for small garbage pail liners.
I have one of the 'green bags' for my knitting bag too! Holds a lot of yarn! WOO HOO!!

Hi . I would love to have your
go green bag. Seems like I have
an over abundance of plastic bags when shopping. This would help me
to cut down on some of them.
Thanks

I have 2 bags from the grocery store -- biggest issue is getting them back in the car -- and then remembering to take them inside. Right now I'm looking at them hanging on my door - but something is hanging on to of them! As for the last plastic bag I used it split!

I've got some free give-away canvas bags that I try to keep in the car, but I often end up taking a different car than the one with the bags! Maybe if I win one I'll have better luck. When I'm bagless, I do try to keep an eye on the checker/bagger and make them fill the plastic bags fuller. I get so annoyed when they want to double-bag or put just a single item in a bag!

I've been making these bags and giving them away. I have 2 that I finally made for me. I have to use a few of the stores plastic bags.

I really try not to use the plastic bags but will use the brown paper bags. I find a lot of uses for the brown bags. For example since I haven't bought paper towels in years I use the paperbags for draining grease off of thing that I have deep fried, THe brown bags can also be cut up for wrapping paper or put down for a weed barrier. hav ea safe fourth.

well, today I had forgotten my bag when I went into Joe's (sporting goods store) but I just put the loose items back into my cart and bagged them when I got to the car.

The last time I had to use plastic was at the grocery store - bags were in the car, but it was about a million degrees IN the store, not to mention outside, and by the time I realized I had left the bags I had already filled my cart with frozen and refrigerated items. I didn't want to risk any additional melting time running out to get my thermal bag, so I went ahead and used the plastic...I plan to reuse them to make more reusable bags!

Bags are kept in both cars. Mine go from car to kitchen to car in same day so always have bag there. Unfortunately husband's go from shop to kitchen to hallway/garage/wherever and so if I go out in his car and decide to shop the chances are high that I won't have bag if I don't check.

I only use plastic when I have forgotten my canvas bags at home.

I use a resuable plastic bag. (The blue, red and white ones with a zipper. I suppose you have them there too.) I always go by bike to the store, even in the rain and snow, so I need something waterproof and large enough to hold everything. I also have cloth bags that I can use but only when it's dry outside. I do take small fruit/veg bags to put tomatoes, etc. in, that might get squashed if I fall down. But not for bananas or oranges, etc.

I have 4 regular reusable bags and 1 for frozen items...they hand off a doorknob staring me in the face in the kitchen. 90% of the time they get used because we plan when we go grocery shopping. The other 10% tends to be spur of the moment shopping and the bags are still in the kitchen. I guess it would be better to keep the bags in the car?!

we reuse the plastic bags until they tear, but a fabric one would be great for those trips when I only need a few items. I have worn out several fabric bags and currently don't have one. :(

I have two fabric bags I won from reading programs at our library that I've been using as shopping bags for groceries. I've been using two freezer/cold bags for my frozen/cold items for several years now as we live quite a ways from the grocery. My biggest issue so far seems to be getting the clerks to slow down enough to allow me to bag my own stuff! Everyone is in such a hurry these days. I hope to crochet some more bags as soon as I'm finished with my WIP. Winning one of your bags would really help me out!

I would love to have a bag. I already use reusable bags but mine are large ones. I need to get more smaller ones or learn to sew or crochet one. The last small ones I had got taken from my shopping cart at the grocery store!
I want one without store advertising this time!

I have been bring my own bags grocery and similar stores for years not and am now going to get smaller ones for carrying in in the mall or to a craft store and alike.

Thanks for doing GREEN!

we are a family of 5, and we restrict our grocery store shopping to once a month to conserve gas and time(fresh fruit/veggies and eggs/milk come from the garden or the local farmer's market weekly). we have cloth bags, but because we make one big trip a month, i never have enough and invariably end up getting some paper bags.

I try to bring my own bag, but I only have one so I take paper bags to use when I recycle my newspapers.

I take my plastic bags from home with me along with my market bags... i dont' quite have enough to hold all my groceries... so I used my market bags and then reuse my old plastic bags...

I also try to keep my bags in my car, so i don't forget them at home... Frustrates me when I forget them... opps!

i use the plastic bags from the store to line my garbage "cans" in the house great for small to medium- bathroom - bedroom, so i don't have to buy plastic can liners

i also keep some in the car to use when we walk- to pick up trash and recyclable items we find wherever we go

our local grocery stores Recycle the bags- haven't actually thrown many away( empty) in a long time
